Church of Scientology

The Church of Scientology opened a new centre in Firhouse, Dublin on the 14th of October 2017, even though there is already a centre on Abbey Street, Dublin. From the 2016 Census there is around 87 members in Ireland and the centre was built to hold up to 1,100 people. The Church of Scientology was set up in 1953 by the American science-fiction writer L.Ron Hubbard. There are many famous people who are Scientologists such as Tom Cruise and Nancy Cartwright. There is a lot of controversy about the Firhouse center because many locals were hoping for the building to be turned into a school or a leisure center that would benefit the whole community.
